Chapter Seven The Troubles CausedWan YankangKang, the Son of Old Friends

Mu Nianci just called out Daddy and then felt too shy to continue. Then she blushed and turned away from the others.

Seeing her like this, Fang Yichen and Mu Yi exchanged amused glances again. Still feeling bewildered, Guo Jing couldn’t quite find the words to express himself, being his usual reserved and simple self.

At this moment he wanted to refuse this matter but before he could speak, he was silenced by his elder brother. He feared that rejecting this girl might lead to some irrational actions. So, he just kept quiet, even though it left him feeling pretty down.

Fang Yichen knowing about the relationship between Mu Yi and Guo Jing intentionally said:

“My brother’s name is Guo Jing, with Guo from Guo Sheng and Jing from J Kang.”

“You... your surname is Guo, and you’re called Guo Jing?” Mu Yi looked at Guo Jing trembling as he asked.

Guo Jing who had been feeling troubled just moments ago, now replied with a courteous gesture:

“Yes, uncle. My name is Guo Jing.”

Upon receiving his confirmation, Mu Yi became even more excited and continued tremblingly asking:

“Guo Jing! So... what is your father’s name?”

Upon hearing Mu Yi asking about his father’s name, Guo Jing felt puzzled but didn’t dwell on it too much. He replied with a courteous gesture:

  “My father’s name was Xiaotian.”

Mu Yi was thunderstruck upon hearing this, tears welling up in his eyes. He choked with emotion:

  “God! Finally, I’ve found you!”

Saying this, he approached Guo Jing, extending his weathered hand and firmly grasping Guo Jing’s wrist.

Guo Jing felt Mu Yi’s hand trembling slightly as he held it, and he felt a few drops of tears fall onto the back of his hand. He thought to himself:

“Perhaps this Uncle Mu is overjoyed because someone is marrying his daughter."

But at this moment, Mu Yi looked at him again, trembling as he asked:

“Is your mother surnamed Li, named Li Ping? Is she still alive, or has she passed away?”

Guo Jing was greatly surprised and said:

“Huh! Uncle Mu, how do you know my mother’s name is Li Ping? Do you know my mother? She’s currently in the desert, and I just arrived in the capital from there.”

Upon hearing this, Mu Yi confirmed Guo Jing’s identity in his heart.

Overwhelmed with emotions, he held onto Guo Jing’s hand tightly, as if grasping a precious treasure, afraid to let go lest he lose it. He sighed:

“Jing’er, you’ve grown up so much! Ah, I often think of your father!”

Guo Jing was puzzled again: “Senior Mu, do you also know my father?”

Mu Yi wiped away his tears and choked up as he spoke:

“Jing’er, my’s real name is Yang Tiexin. Your father was my sworn brother, and we were like true siblings, bound by loyalty stronger than blood.”

He paused, unable to continue as his throat tightened. Guo Jing, who had lost his father at a young age, felt his eyes moisten at the mention of his late father.

After regaining control of his emotions, Mu Yi continued:

“Dear nephew, my great-grandfather was the famous general Yang Zaixing under the banner of the Yue Family Army, and your father Guo Xiaotian was the descendant of the hero Guo Sheng from Liangshan Marsh.”

“When we were captured by the soldiers in a fight, I was shot in the back and severely wounded, fainting in the grass.”

"Fortunately, the soldiers did not discover that I was still alive in the darkness of the night, and I managed to escape death. But your father died on the spot."

“When I woke up the next morning, I struggled to crawl to a nearby farmhouse, where the couple living there saved me. After burying your father, it took more than a year of care before my injuries healed.”

“After that, I searched all the nearby counties looking for any trace of my wife Bao Xiruo, and your mother Li Ping, but by then, it was like searching for a needle in a haystack. Where could I possibly find them in such a vast sea of people?”

“Still, I held onto hope and set out alone to find them. Your mother and my wife were both pregnant at the time, and I was determined to find them."

“But I dared not use the name Yang Tiexin again, so I split the character “Yang” into ‘Wood’ and changed ‘Mu’ to ‘Yi’, becoming Mu Yi.”

“During my travels, I happened to meet Nian Ci and adopted her as my daughter.”

“For over a decade, my daughter and I wandered the world. Today, seeing my dear nephew, my heart is filled with excitement and emotion!”

“Your father and I had an agreement back then: if we both had sons, we would become sworn brothers; if one had a son and the other a daughter, we would become in-laws.”

“This adopted daughter is like my own and I never expected to meet you, my dear nephew at this martial arts competition today. It must be fate!”

With these words, he became emotional again.

Guo Jing was also stunned! Thinking to himself:

“Isn’t it just incredible how things turned out like this? Could it be fate? But... what about Hua Zheng from Mongolia? What should we do about her?”

He was unsure of what to do at that moment, only silently thinking to himself:

“Dictates of parents and words of matchmaker. Since my father and Uncle Yang have already arranged a marriage for me, I should honor my father’s wishes. However, I must consult with my mother about this matter.”

  ......

The onlookers admired the match between these two talented and beautiful individuals and felt they were a perfect match.

Seeing that Mu Yi and his daughter agreed to the marriage, they knew there would be no more excitement to watch, so they began to disperse.

Fang Yichen knew this wasn’t the place for catching up, so he suggested that Yang Tiexin return to the inn to talk.

Right at that moment, the sound of bells rang out, and several servants escorted a young nobleman riding a horse over.

Upon seeing the banner for the martial arts competition and sizing up Mu Nianci, the young lord smiled faintly, dismounted, and approached them. He clasped his fists and said to Mu Nianci:

“Is this the young girl participating in the martial arts competition? I’ve come to compete.”

Mu Nianci, feeling a sense of belonging at this moment, remained silent with a cold expression. Mu Yi stepped forward and greeted respectfully:

“This young lord, the girl has just found a suitable husband, already betrothed to this young gentleman surnamed Guo. You’re late, please leave.”

Fang Yichen, seeing the man dressed in silk robes and looking handsome and lively, knew he must be Wan Yankang without a doubt. He snorted inwardly, thinking:

“Wan Yankang, if you’re here to flirt with Mu Nianci, you’ll have to get past me first!”

At this, the young lord glanced at Guo Jing and laughed:

“Not too late, not too late! You haven’t left yet, have you? How could such a beauty marry this rough fellow? Come on, come on! Little lady, let’s have a little contest between us!”

  “You...!”

Mu Yi was furious at his words and was about to retort when Fang Yichen stopped him and stepped forward, arching his hands:

“This young lord, are you here to cause trouble? If so, you’ll have to deal with me first!”

With that, he lifted his silk robe and assumed a stance.

Seeing the posture he was putting on, Wan Yankang couldn’t help but focus his gaze.

Fang Yichen’s posture seemed quite ordinary to others, but it felt completely different to Wan Yankang. He instantly sensed a hint of pressure.

This was because Fang Yichen deliberately mobilized his entire body’s energy, directing his momentum towards him.

Wan Yankang was also not one to back down easily. Faced with a direct challenge like this, how could he retreat? So, with his hands behind his back and replied:

“I am Wan Yankang, the young prince of the Zhao Palace. Who are you? State your name?”
